Ninomiya Institute
Sustainable social entrepreneurship with a global vision
The Ninomiya Institute was created to gather and consolidate the relevant social actions developed over decades by the Ninomiya family. With a tradition spanning generations, the family has a history of commitment to tackling social challenges and promoting human development. Our initiatives range from school supplies campaigns to restructuring financially and administratively troubled social activities. We also implement libraries and technology spaces in social institutions, among other actions.

In late 2009, the founder of the Institute visited one of the first social projects where he volunteered in the outskirts of Goiânia. Upon arrival, he found that the activities were being shut down due to a lack of resources and workforce. A proposal was made to the project founders: to take over management for one year, aiming to restructure the activities, recruit and train a new team, implement a library and a computer room, and then return the project to the founders. This initiative was a great success.
The two main factors identified during this experience—sustainability of activities and the need to professionalize management—were fundamental to the creation of what is now the Ninomiya Institute.
This journey of social actions, accumulating valuable experiences in various areas, led the founder of the Institute to recognize the need to consolidate a social business model. Thus, the Ninomiya Institute was born, with the purpose of helping social institutions become sustainable and increase the quality and impact of their projects. Our actions are enhanced through strategic partnerships, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals), ensuring the integrity and credibility of our work.
Released in 2019, Sontoku is a graphic animated short film that seeks to highlight the virtues of overcoming adversity, perseverance, and the altruistic spirit of a young orphan who changed a country, based on the true story of Kinjiro Ninomiya.
